Dr. Myron Wentz is a microbiologist, immunologist, and pioneer in the development of human cell culture technology and infectious disease diagnoses. He holds a bachelor's degree in biology from North Central College in Naperville, Illinois. A master's degree in microbiology from the University of North Dakota. He is also a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology from the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.
On 1974, Dr. Wentz launched Gull Laboratories. After 3 years, his viral diagnostic analysis were approved by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and immediately prepared for marketing to hospital and clinical laboratories. He is the first person to develop a commercially available test for diagnosing infection with the Epstein-Barr virus.
According to wikipedia, Epstein-Barr virus, also known as human herpes virus 4, is one of eight viruses in the herpes family, and is one of the most common viruses in humans. It is best known as the cause of infectious mononucleosis (glandular fever). It is also associated with particular forms of cancer, such as Hodgkin's lymphoma, Burkitt's lymphoma, gastric cancer, nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and conditions associated with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), such as hairy leukoplakia and central nervous system lymphomas. There is evidence that infection with EBV is associated with a higher risk of certain autoimmune diseases, especially dermatomyositis, systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren's syndrome, and multiple sclerosis. Some 200,000 cancer cases per year are thought to be attributable to EBV.
What made Dr. Wentz develop USANA?
At the age of 17, his father died from heart disease and it was his most traumatic events in his life. Eventually, his aunts and uncles claimed also for having heart disease and cancer. Then his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and his older brother also died of cancer at the age of 66. In short, his family is having the problem of degenerative disease.
During his depth research of cell culture, he strongly believe and was convinced that the only way to prevent or even reverse degenerative disease was to give our bodies the proper nutrition, that our bodies needs to have the essential supplementation. That's when he developed the nutritional products know today as USANA.

Cell Culture - the process by which cells are grown under controlled conditions, generally outside of their natural environment.
